Albany-Greene Driver Education started in the fall of 2010. It began with fall and spring classes at Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk and expanded the next summer with a class at Coxsackie-Athens. Each of those districts had driver education in the past, but due various circumstances had to discontinue them. As of the start of this year I have taught six classes at RCS and three classes at C-A.
My involvement with driver education began long before teaching it as a class. My previous experiences were with my four children and taking them out in the family car. I believe parent involvement is a vital part of driver education and the state of New York also supports this fact. As of this year the graduated license program is requiring 50 hours of behind the wheel instruction before applying for a road test.
I have students for 24 BTW hours the additional hours should be with a parent or guardian practicing safe driving concepts in a variety of situations such as night, highway, rural driving, and parking. Driver Education is a team process and only works well with practice outside of the time in Driver Education.
If you have questions or comments please see my contact information listed on this website. I look forward to working with you as partners in the driver education process.
Thank you,
Peter Siciliano
